The sequel to Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children follows Jacob and his friends to London, chronicling their unusual adventures along the way. Quirky, entertaining, and well-written, this young adult novel from Ransom Riggs will be as beloved as its predecessor.

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children was the surprise best seller of 2011 — an unprecedented mix of YA fantasy and vintage photography that enthralled readers and critics alike. Publishers Weekly called it “an enjoyable, eccentric read, distinguished by well-developed characters, a believable Welsh setting, and some very creepy monsters.”

This second novel begins in 1940, immediately after the first book ended. Having escaped Miss Peregrine’s island by the skin of their teeth, Jacob and his new friends must journey to London, the peculiar capital of the world. Along the way, they encounter new allies, a menagerie of peculiar animals, and other unexpected surprises.

Complete with dozens of newly discovered (and thoroughly mesmerizing) vintage photographs, this new adventure will delight readers of all ages.

Review:

"[F]ans will be thrilled to know that the sequel to Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is as hauntingly sinister as the first and is unequivocally worth the wait. It's a rare sequel that improves on the series' beginning....A must-read!" RT Book Reviews

Review:

"[A] tasty adventure for any reader with an appetite for the...peculiar." Kirkus Reviews

Review:

"Riggs has created a fresh and original world in these Peregrine novels, with likable, quirky characters and a very readable style." Library Journal Xpress Review

I have to say that I loved the first book in this series. I wasn't sure how the sequel would fare but was pleasantly surprised and could hardly wait to finish it. Without ruining it for others, the continued journey of the peculiars was suspenseful and intriguing. The new peculiars they encountered were full of wisdom and insight. The ending was a cliffhanger so I assume there will be a third book which I must have!!!!

Ransom Riggs' sequel to Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is another suspenseful thriller filled with more authentic creepy very old photographs. Once again Riggs' ability to connect the bizarre photos to the events of the story is brilliant. There is not a single event or character that seems contrived just to work in a photo. The story picks up right where book #1 ended. The plot is more exciting and much more background on the peculiars is revealed, but the more the reader learns about the peculiars, the more mysterious they are. Jacob, the protagonist from book #1, is more of a secondary character in Hollow City as he continues to be befuddled by the dangerous circumstances, the evil villains who are after them and his new companions ways of dealing with the dangers. Fans of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children will love Hollow City and will be excited for book three.

Hollow City is even more exciting than its prequel, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, and I gave the first book 5 stars! More adventure, more in-depth information about the world of the Peculiars, and some new, equally lovable characters. Best of all, it promises that there will be a third book coming soon! Keep up the great work, Ransom Riggs!
