Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Jitterbug Perfume is an epic. Which is to say, it begins in the forests of ancient Bohemia and doesn't conclude until nine o'clock tonight [Paris time]. It is a saga, as well. A saga must have a hero, and the hero of this one is a janitor with a missing bottle. The bottle is blue, very, very old, and embossed with the image of a goat-horned god. If the liquid in the bottle is actually the secret essence of the universe, as some folks seem to think, it had better be discovered soon because it is leaking and there is only a drop or two left.

Review:

"Jitterbug Perfume has a large and exotic cast of characters, all of whom are interested in immortality and/or perfume....Go see for yourself; you'll have a good time." Washington Post

“Robbins again celebrates the joy of individual expression and self-reliance. He lays before us the time honored warts and hairs of the world’s philosophies—problems with religion, war, politics, family, marriage and sex—and leaves no twist or turn unstoned. —Saturday Review

An historical, anthropological, AND wildly entertaining journey through our time on this Earth-and its enveloping yet freeing embrace. Robbins intelligently incorporates the ponderings of our human existence and all our curiosities in a fantastic story!
Each page desires to be read as slowly and mindfully like each one were a different piece of just-ripe, aromatic, juicy, dripping fruit. Pure Ambrosia of a Book!

This was the first time I read Tom Robbins, I had been considering reading this book for a while and now wonder why I waited. Not only is this a great story filled with great characters, it makes one consider life and how one lives it. But most importantly Robbins' command of the English language is breathtaking.

First book by Tom Robbins I have read. A wonderful assortment of the most unexpected characters living the most random lives! I absolutely love how interstingly Tom Robbins describes the most common of day to day activities and conversations. I will be sure to read more from this author, and will definitely go back to this book for another read!
