Meet Rose's sister, Maggie. Twenty-eight years old, drop-dead gorgeous and only occasionally employed, Maggie sings backup in a band called Whiskered Biscuit. Although her dreams of big-screen stardom haven't progressed past her left hip's appearance in a Will Smith video, Maggie dreams of fame and fortune — and of getting her dowdy big sister to stick to a skin-care regime.
These two women with nothing in common but a childhood tragedy, shared DNA, and the same size feet, are about to learn that their family is more different than they ever imagined, and that they're more alike than they'd ever believe. In Her Shoes — Jennifer Weiner's follow-up to her critically acclaimed debut, Good in Bed — observes Rose and Maggie, the brain and the beauty, as they make journeys of discovery that take them from the streets of Philadelphia to Ivy League libraries to a "retirement community for active seniors" in Boca Raton. Along the way, they'll encounter a wild cast of characters — from a stepmother who's into recreational Botox to a small, disdainful pug with no name. They'll borrow shoes and clothes and boyfriends, and make peace with their most intimate enemies — each other.
Funny and poignant, richly detailed and wrenchingly real, In Her Shoes will speak to anyone who has endured the bonds of big — or little — sisterhood, or longed for a life different from the one the world has dictated, and dreamed of trying something else on for size.

Synopsis:
Rose is a thirty-year-old attorney with a secret passion for romance novels. She's going to start exercising next week, and she dreams of a man who will slide off her glasses and tell her she's beautiful. Maggie is twenty-eight and drop-dead gorgeous. Although her stardom hasn't progressed past her hip's appearance in a music video, she dreams of fame and fortune. These two sisters claim to have nothing in common but DNA, a childhood tragedy, and a shoe size, but when they're forced into cohabitation, they may just learn that they're more alike than they thought.

Hi, my name is caleb, i'm 16, and i live in GA. I know the last sentence is irrelevant to this comment, but i thought you should know. I saw In Her Shoes when it first came out on DVD. I knew it was based on a book, because i saw it in the library. I loved the movie a lot. It made me cry, and helped me understand that family is very important. I started reading the book a few days ago, i got it form our community book store. It goes way more in depth to the story of the sisters, i love it. I am actually doing a project for english class on the book. Just wanted to comment on a wonderful book! I'm still looking for the other books by Jennifer Weiner.

I only arrived upon this because i was looking for Louboutin shoes - and i have sat here reading for nearly an hour instead of getting on with my last week of work for an exhibition - i found this drew me in and kept me interested - along with having to stifle a grin amid the room full of people i am in. I am going to see if i can find this in a bookshop as i don't like to buy from the net but what a read! Naturally written, deep yet lighthearted, entertaining read! :) by the way on the louboutin subject - keep your eyes out for me in the years to come as the next shoedesigner to knock your socks off!!! *****
