Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

On an island off the coasts of Virginia and Maryland lives a centuries-old band of wild ponies. Among them is the most mysterious of all, Phantom, a rarely seen mare that eludes all efforts to capture her—that is, until a young boy and girl lay eyes on her and determine that they can’t live without her. The frenzied roundup that follows on the next “Pony Penning Day” does indeed bring Phantom into their lives, in a way they never would have suspected. Phantom would forever be a creature of the wild. But her gentle, loyal colt Misty is another story altogether.

Now a new generation of readers can discover this beloved classic, including the original Wesley Dennis hardcover art!

About the Author

Margureite Henry

Practically all of Marguerite Henry's work, whether laid in the present or the

past, are based in actual fact and are about real horses and real people. To

learn about her characters and the places they live, she haunts libraries, and

hopscotches across country and flies over oceans. Marguerite now lives in Ranco

Santa Fe, California, where there are as many horses as people. People often

ask her why she writes so much about animals, especially horses. " It's exciting

to me ", she answers, "that no matter how much machinery replaces the horse,

the work it can do will still be measured in horsepower... even in this space age."
