Publisher Comments:

Winning is destined to become the bible of business for generations to come. It clearly and succinctly lays out the answers to the most difficult, important questions people face both on and off the job. Welch's objective is to speak to people at every level of the organization, in companies large and small. His audience is everyone from line workers to college students and MBAs, from project managers to senior executives. He describes his core business principles and devotes most of Winning to the real "stuff" of work. Welch's optimistic, no excuses, get-it-done mind set is riveting. His goal is to help anyone and everyone who has a passion for success.

Synopsis:

Jack Welch knows how to win. During his forty-year career at General Electric, he led the company to year-after-year success around the globe, in multiple markets, against brutal competition. His honest, be-the-best style of management became the gold standard in business, with his relentless focus on people, teamwork, and profits.

Welch's optimistic, no excuses, get-it-done mind-set is riveting. Packed with personal anecdotes and written in Jack's distinctive no-b.s. voice, Winning is a great read and a great business book. It offers deep insights, original thinking, and nuts-and-bolts advice that are bound to change the way people think about work.

Read by Jack Welch

Synopsis:

A highly practical book that teaches people how to win in business and in life by sharing the lessons of Jack Welch's hugely successful career as a great chief executive and manager.

Building on the success of his first book about his career at GE, Welch's' second book will be a more practical, howandndash;to handbook, written specifically for his fans who have been asking him for business advice when he makes public appearances.

Welch sets the stage with a blockbuster introduction which could be called, In Praise of Winning. "One thing that is absolutely true and irrefutable about business is that winning is great. Not good andndash; great .....Winning lifts everyone it touches andndash; it just makes the world a better place." The introduction is followed by sections, where he lays out his building blocks, which he calls, 'Underneath It All', Mission and Values', 'Candor', 'Differentiation' and lastly, 'Voice and Dignity. Finally, Welch wraps up these three principles with his core belief in voice and dignity.

In 1999, Fortune named him the "manager of the century," and the Financial Times recently named him one of the three most admired business leaders in the world today. Upon retiring from GE in 2001, Mr. Welch published his internationally best-selling autobiography Jack: Straight from the Gut. He now teaches at MIT's Sloan School of Management and speaks to business leaders and students around the world.
