Synopses & Reviews

Synopsis:

Like the rest of his family, Louis is a trumpeter swan. But unlike his four brothers and sisters, Louis can't trumpet joyfully. In fact, he can't even make a sound. And since he can't trumpet his love, the beautiful swan Serena pays absolutely no attention to him.

Louis tries everything he can think of to win Serena's affection — he even goes to school to learn to read and write. But nothing seems to work. Then his father steals him a real brass trumpet. Is a musical instrument the key to winning Louis his love?

It's been more than a decade (likely, two of them) since I last read this book. It was actually read TO me in class, and I loved this book. It's an endearing story about a swan with no voice who yearns to communicate and win the affection of a lovely female swan. The papa swan steals a trumpet, and the mute swan goes to great lengths to learn to play it, eventually becoming a celebrity and paying for the stolen trumpet, winning his lady love. I would highly recommend this book for any young adult, or any adult who loves a sweet story.
