Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

The Whangdoodle was once the wisest, the kindest, and the most extraordinary creature in the world. Then he disappeared and created a wonderful land for himself and all the other remarkable animals — the ten-legged Sidewinders, the little furry Flukes, the friendly Whiffle Bird, and the treacherous, "oily" Prock. It was an almost perfect place where the last of the really great Whangdoodles could rule his kingdom with "peace, love and a sense of fun" — apart from and forgotten by people.

But not completely forgotten. Professor Savant believed in the Whangdoodle. And when he told the three Potter children of his search for the spectacular creature, Lindy, Tom, and Ben were eager to reach Whangdoodleland.

With the Professor's help, they discovered the secret way. But waiting for them was the scheming Prock, who would use almost any means to keep them away from his beloved king. Only by skill and determination were the four travelers able to discover the last of the really great Whangdoodles and grant him his heart's desire.

Julie Andrews Edwards, star of stage and screen, has written a unique and beloved story that has become a modern classic. The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles is sure to continue to delight readers everywhere. This edition includes a new foreword by the author.

Synopsis:

Ben, Tom, and Lindy Potter have never even heard of a Whangdoodle— until they meet the brillant Professor Savant. He tells them all about the wise and magical creatures who disappeared to another land because people stopped believe in them. And when the professor invites them on a quest to find the last of the really great Whangdoodles, they can’ t resist. The way to Whangdoodleland isn’ t easy: The children must learn to see things in a completely different way. When at last they succeed, they encounter wondrous creatures, but it seems they’ ll never find the elusive Whangdoodle. Especially since the “ oily” Prock, the sinister Prime Minister of Whangdoodleland, is determined to stop them in any way he can. Rejuvenated with beautiful new cover art, this 30th anniversary edition will introduce new readers to the memorable world of the Whangdoodle.

Synopsis:

Until Professor Savant told them about the Whangdoodles--the wise and magical creatures who disappeared to live apart from and forgotten by people--the Potter children led ordinary lives.

I think that this a wonderful book and I read it over 20 years ago. It lets your imagination wander to new and exotic places.

I hear that it might be turned into a movie by the Disney Co. and I think it would be interesting to see how it goes from page to screen.

I think that the author knows children very well and how to get their minds open to new things.
