The important thing about this book is that you will love it. It is perfect for reading aloud with little ones. It has lovely, old-fashioned illustrations. And it is a classic, by the Grande Dame of children's books, Margaret Wise Brown. But the important thing about this book is that you will love it.

Publisher Comments:

The important thing about The Important Book--is that you let your child tell you what is important about the sun and the moon and the wind and the rain and a bug and a bee and a chair and a table and a pencil and a bear and a rainbow and a cat (if he wants to).For the important thing about The Important Bookis that the book goes on long after it is closed. What is most important about many familiar things—like rain and wind, apples and daisies—is suggested in rhythmic words and vivid pictures.‘A perfect book . . . the text establishes a word game which tiny children will accept with glee.’ —K.

I don't always agree with what is deemed important about things (important thing about daisy = white; important thing about cricket = black), but I enjoy reading this book with my 2 year old daughter because we use it to talk about what she thinks is important about different things (for example, she thinks that what is important about grass is that you can walk and run and sit in it and that her papi cuts it). So the book is very sweet to read together. We talk about things she remembers and likes. But I would suggest not reading it verbatim at the beginning so that your child has an opportunity to think about what she or he values.
