Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Call it a miracle or an accident at the sperm bank. But Julie Katz, the half-sister of Jesus, has been born to a celibate father. Soon poor Julie is tempted by the Devil and challenged by neo-Christian zealots-and thats just the beginning of her fantastic odyssey through Hell, a seceded New Jersey, and her own confused soul. Winner of a 1991 World Fantasy Award.

Synopsis:

Morrow explores the difficulties facing God's twentieth-century offspring, complete with virgin birth. Julie Katz is a New Jersey girl--the miracle child of a celibate Jewish recluse whose sperm sample, donated to an Atlantic City baby bank, spontaneously gestates.

I'm not a huge reader of science fiction, and I have never read Morrow before, but I really did enjoy this book. It was both deeper and funnier than I expected. It was also more violent than the light tone at the beginning would suggest.

You don't have to have a feeling about religion one way or the other to enjoy this book, but if you've ever been an evangelical Christian, I think there are some special jabs in there for you.
