Review:"Mould's memoir is in many ways a long, slow self-immolation. Growing up in an abusive household in the small town of Malone, NY, Mould discovered two things that quickly set him apart: he was gay and he was captivated by punk rock. Pouring himself into a punk subculture in the Twin Cities, Mould tore through the eighties with one of the seminal punk rock acts of the era, Hüsker Dü, all the while keeping his sexual identity a relative secret. Mould succeeds in bringing this time to brilliant, blinding life with frenetic and vivid snapshots of the road and the eventual dissolution of the band. But what keeps things compelling is Mould's ability to sincerely reveal himself to the reader as each relationship — business or personal — propels him into the next chapter of his eventful life.
