Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Trained pastry chef, blogger, and mother of two Aran Goyoaga turned to gluten-free cooking when she and her children were diagnosed with gluten intolerance. Combining the flavors of her childhood in Bilbao, Spain, with unique artistry and the informal elegance of small-plate dining, Aran has sacrificed nothing.

Dishes range from soups and salads to savory tarts and stews to her signature desserts. With delicate, flavorful, and naturally gluten-free recipes arranged by season, and the author's gorgeously sun-filled food photography throughout, Small Plates and Sweet Treats will bring the magic of Aran's home to yours.

Fans of Cannelle et Vanille, those with gluten allergies, and cookbook enthusiasts looking for something new and special will all be attracted to this breathtaking book.

Karen Brooks, November 7, 2013 (view all comments by Karen Brooks)
My daughter-in-law was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and has had to go totally gluten-free. I've been surfing the web, checking out (and buying) cookbooks, looking for good recipes for me to make for her and for her to make (she & my son both work and they have a 4 year old, so healthy, good and not too labor intensive was important.) Have had some really bad results. Gluten-free is not easy! Then I found this book and it's a treasure! So far, every recipe we've tried has been a hit both with my GF daughter-in-law and the rest of us who don't have to eat this way. I especially love that it's organized seasonally as I shop our local farmers' market and buy fresh ingredients in season. Highly recommend this for anyone who has to or wants to go gluten-free. Also recommend it for the rest of us as the recipes are wonderful!
