My 2nd favorite Vampire Chronicles book, behind Blood and Gold. This story follows Lestat as he is guided by a demon through the passage of time, the development of Heaven, Earth, and Hell, and to the modern age. It was the beginning of Anne Rice's exploration of more religious themes, however the book has plenty of darkness and sex to satisfy long time Vampire Chronicles readers. It's a beautifully written book that combines anthropology, religious evolution, and vampires in a way that makes it all make sense. Like all Anne Rice books, I find they are so engrossing that once I start I simply cannot put it down.
