I cried, I laughed, I learned--what higher praise can I give a book? The reader feels Crimmins's fear, grief, helplessness, outrage, and hope while she accompanies her husband to the hospital, deals with her HMO, finds a good rehab center, tries to still be a mother to their seven-year-old daughter (who witnessed the accident), and restructures their lives to accommodate this new version of her husband. Readers unfamiliar with brain injury will learn how intensive and necessary complete rehabilitation is, and that the brain injured are never really going to be their pre-accident (pre-morbid) selves again.

Everyone should read this book. Even if you don't know anyone with a brain injury, that's really only saying that you don't know anyone yet.
