An exhaustive and entertaining history of the equally beloved and reviled genre. The book begins with Black Sabbath (named after a Boris Karloff film), the bedrock of heavy metal, and covers the increasing arcane subgenres like death metal, doom metal, and Norwegian black metal, the latter of which resuled in deaths and church burnings. Author Ian Christie deals with both important bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden as well as the glammy, flashy L.A. bands like Motley Crue. A must for all true believers. 3 devils' horns up!
