I really enjoyed this book. I watched "The Sound of Music" many, many times when I was young, and it was fascinating to read the real story behind the movie. I loved the movie, but I felt it glossed over an awful lot. The book spends a lot of time talking about daily family life before the war, which I felt added a lot of depth to the characters. Most importantly, it also spends time on what happened to the family after they left Austria, and the lives they made for themselves in the US. Maria has an engaging writing style, and as a bonus, there is a selection of photos included in the book. Highly recommended for anyone who liked the movie, but wants to know more!
