How to Be an Explorer of the World: Portable Life Museum Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

From the author of Wreck This Journal, an interactive guide for exploring and documenting the art and science of everyday life.

Artists and scientists analyze the world around them in surprisingly similar ways, by observing, collecting, documenting, analyzing, and comparing. In this captivating guided journal, readers are encouraged to explore their world as both artists and scientists.

The mission Smith proposes? "To document and observe the world around you. As if you've never seen it before. Take notes. Collect things you find on your travels. Document findings. Notice patterns. Copy. Trace. Focus on one thing at a time. Record what you are drawn to."

With a series of interactive prompts and a beautifully hand-illustrated two-color package, readers will enjoy exploring and discovering the world through this gorgeous book.

If you're like me and fed up with human interest books void of content that exercise mental masterbation and not much else, How to Be an Explorer of the World is the perfect post-modern redemption. The interactive format pushes you to consider the procedural process through which we perceive and perscribe meaning to reality. I intensely enjoyed this book and highly reccomend it if you're tired of coffee and want a mechanism wake you up!

A fantastic book to encourage focus, free-thinking, creativity, and intense observation on a deeply individual level. No screens, money, plastic gadgets required. A book meant to be used, written in, carried around. I got this as a Christmas gift for my daughter and I think I want one for myself!
