Publisher Comments:

History is repeating itself.

For ambitious engineer Simon Darcy, winning Queen Victorias competition to recover lost inventions of historical significance is a matter of pride—and redemption. After all, it was Simons failed monorail project that left his family destitute, and winning the tournament would surely restore the Darcys reputation.

Simon sets his sights high, targeting no less than the infamous time-travel device that forever changed the world by transporting scientists, engineers, and artists from the twentieth century. The Mod technology was banned and supposedly destroyed, but Simon is sure he can re-create it.

His daring plan draws the attention of Willie G., the Clockwork Canary, Londons sensationalist reporter. Simon soon discovers that Willie is a male guise for Wilhemina Goodenough, the love of his youth, who left him jilted and bitter. He questions her motives even as he falls prey to her unique charm. As the attraction between the two reignites, Simon realizes that this vixen from his past has secrets that could be the key to his future…as long as he can put their history behind him.

Review:

"In this engrossing steampunk adventure, paranormal romance author Brook (Demon Blood) uses detailed descriptions and an impressive imagination to create a world where people can be part machine but all heart. It's been nine years since the Horde, an oppressive empire from Asia, were run out of England. However, detective inspector Lady Wilhelmina Wentworth will never be able to escape their cruelty: her mother was raped during the invasion, and Mina is half Horde. Mina crosses paths with the revered Iron Duke Rhys Trahaearn, a former pirate captain who was instrumental in fighting the Horde, when a dead body is tossed on his estate. What begins as lust sparks into full-blown romance as the two learn more about the nefarious Black Guard and catch a murderous madman. Airships, zombies, nanotechnology, outlandish secondary characters, and a complicated heroine-who goes from believing 'Dead people of all sorts were more tolerable than most of those living' to being willing to love-make for a complex, gripping read.

In 2010 I really got into reading SteamPunk novels and by far my favorite book was The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook. By the end of the book you really care about her characters, and she doesn't magically make everything work out smooth and easy for the hero and heroine. The details of her world are concise, and her descriptions well thought out. Battling prejudice and bad bad guys will take a lot of time and effort, but you can be the Iron Duke won't back down when going after the woman he's fallen for!
