This has to be one of my absolute favourite books in the Power of Five (UK)/The Gatekeepers (US) besides the last one. This one is dark, smartly written, and for a man who was born and raised in England, surprisingly American, which is perfect for the main characters Scott and Jamie. The descriptions are beautiful per usual, and there the plot twist fits perfectly well into the book. Something that I love overall about the series has to be the way that Horowitz includes characters of different ethnicities with different upbringings, which gives the series a very well rounded feel. This book, due to the (non explicit) torture, I would recommend to no one younger than 13. It takes a more mature mind to read this, and though the series was originally intended for children, it's the type of thing that would give them nightmares.
