Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Critics call Perri OShaughnessys legal thrillers “terrific...will keep you turning the pages into the night” (USA Today) and “gripping” (San Francisco Chronicle Book Review).

Now the New York Times bestselling author ratchets up the suspense yet again...with an electrifying novel that plunges Lake Tahoe attorney Nina Reilly into a shadowy world of high-stakes money and cold-blooded murder. . . .

An attorney and single mother, Nina Reilly sees other peoples ups and downs as clearly as she sees her own. But shes never seen anything like the fierce, terrified young woman who comes to her in the middle of the night, trailing a computer geek who was a stranger a few hours before. Their problem: they just won seven million dollars at the slot machines. Within hours, her clients good fortune has plunged Nina into a battle that will be waged in court and on the streets. The young womans past—and the mysterious death of her husband in Hawaii—has triggered a powerful mans crusade of revenge. But a moment of chance and enough money to save two troubled lives has done something worse: its brought a killer into their midst. . .

Nina Reilly represents a woman named Jessie Potter who has just won the jackpot. Not wanting to give the casino her real name Jessie comes to Nina to ask for her help by marrying the man that was in the seat next to her in the casino. After accepting the check for the jackpot, Jessie is now in danger from people who believe that they should have won the money, the gaming commission, and a stepfather who believes that she is responsible for her former husband's death. Like with all of O'Shaughnessy's works, the ending is both surprising and thrilling.

A wonderful tangle of potential perps.

Great characters - Nina Reilly is a very believable, small business lawyer without any of the unbelievable martyrdom. Kenny and Jessie are adorable. Sandy is the perfect tough office assistant. Paul is a patient man - he must be in love.

A page-turning thriller.

I can't wait to read the other O'Shaughnessy sister's creations.
