But then Pearl Harbor is attacked by the Japanese, and the United States declares war on Japan. Japanese men are rounded up, and Tomis father and grandfather are arrested. Its a terrifying time to be Japanese in America. But one thing doesnt change: the loyalty of Tomis buddies, the Rats.

Graham Salisbury's books have won several awards, including the PEN/Norma Klein Award for his debut novel, Blue Skin of the Sea, and the Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction for his second novel, Under the Blood-Red Sun. He lives with his family in Portland, Oregon, where he manages a historic office building.
