Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Business has been slow. Okay, business has been dead. And not even of the undead variety. You would think Chicago would have a little more action for the only professional wizard in the phone book. But lately, Harry Dresden hasn't been able to dredge up any kind of work — magical or mundane.

But just when it looks like he can't afford his next meal, a murder comes along that requires his particular brand of supernatural expertise.

A brutally mutilated corpse. Strange-looking paw prints. A full moon. Take three guesses — and the first two don't count...

Review:

"A fun new occult mystery series." Locus

Review:

"Exciting, well-plotted, complex, an excellent read and amazingly good first novel." Chris Bunch, author of The Warrior King

Review:

"Try it, you'll like it. An exciting debut novel suggesting there are wizards and witches among us...wish I'd thought of it myself." Glen Cook, author of Faded Steel Hat

Synopsis:

Could a werewolf be loose in Chicago? Common sense says no. The grisly evidence says yes. So does Harry Dresden. And with his weird connections, he should know.

About the Author

A martial arts enthusiast whose resume includes a long list of skills rendered obsolete at least two hundred years ago, Jim Butcher turned to writing as a career because anything else probably would have driven him insane. He lives with his wife, son, and ferocious guard dog.

Book One of the Dresden Files was so good, I just had to continue with Book Two. I never knew there were so many different kinds of werewolves! I also never knew that one wizard could take such a beating and keep on spelling. Will he ever be reconciled with the Chicago PD? I'm going to find out as soon as I start Book Three - can't wait.

Book Two of the Dresden Files doesn't disappoint after the promising start in Storm Front. This time, Harry is up against werewolves. And not just any sort of werewolves, either: this one is a particularly nasty, powerful sort that makes the regular sort look like cute puppies. Add cranky Chicago Police and local mob boss Johnny Marcone to the mix, and our hero has quite a headache. Butcher never lets Harry off easy, and it makes for yet another page-turner in the series. Two thumbs up from me.
