Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

In Laurell K. Hamilton's New York Times bestselling novels, Vampire Hunter and zombie animator Anita Blake is an expert at sniffing out the bad from the good. But she's about to learn that nothing is ever as it seems — especially in matters of the not-so-human heart...

Dating a werewolf with self-esteem issues is stressing Anita out. Especially when something — or someone — starts taking out the city's shapeshifters.

Review:

"A real rush...a heady mix of romance and horror." Jayne Ann Krentz

Synopsis:

Anita Blake has fallen for the leader of a local pack of werewolves. She's survived a lot, but this love affair may kill her yet.

If you like horror with a dash of black humour and can cope with alternate reality tales then you'll love this series. Both good guys and bad are incredible but always plausible. Anita is in love with Richard Zeeman, a kind and handsome science teacher who just happens to be a werewolf - an Alpha Male. Anita thinks she can deal with his "condition" enough to consider marriage. Then she starts to see another side of Richard - one he has tried to keep dormant. The alluring Jean-Claude, vampire extraordinaire, and Master of the City of St. Louis, finds it entertaining that Anita doesn't think Richard is "human enough" for her! Lycanthropy just happens to be the foremost theme of this novel, so the couple's problem is significant. In addition we get more of an introduction to the lycanthropes (weres) of the city, their communal formation, and the whole host of problems that go with that. I highly recommend this series, but I believe that to really enjoy these novels, and the characters' development, these books should be read in order (At least the 1st four).

this was one of my favorite anita blake books out because it brings in more of richard then we had been seeing and allows us to get to know the character better even though theres not much to do about vampires in this one. It changed my outlook on Jean Claude though.
