Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

In a single moment, everything changes. Seventeenyear- old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregon road with her family. Then, in a blink, she finds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck...

A sophisticated, layered, and heartachingly beautiful story about the power of family and friends, the choices we all make-and the ultimate choice Mia commands.

Review:

"The last normal moment that Mia, a talented cellist, can remember is being in the car with her family. Then she is standing outside her body beside their mangled Buick and her parents' corpses, watching herself and her little brother being tended by paramedics. As she ponders her state ('Am I dead? I actually have to ask myself this'), Mia is whisked away to a hospital, where, her body in a coma, she reflects on the past and tries to decide whether to fight to live. Via Mia's thoughts and flashbacks, Forman (Sisters in Sanity) expertly explores the teenager's life, her passion for classical music and her strong relationships with her family, friends and boyfriend, Adam. Mia's singular perspective (which will recall Alice Sebold's adult novel, The Lovely Bones) also allows for powerful portraits of her friends and family as they cope: 'Please don't die. If you die, there's going to be one of those cheesy Princess Diana memorials at school,' prays Mia's friend Kim. 'I know you'd hate that kind of thing.' Intensely moving, the novel will force readers to take stock of their lives and the people and things that make them worth living. Ages 14 — up." Publishers Weekly (Starred Review) (Copyright Reed Business Information, Inc.)

Review:

"There is little wasted prose, and not a single event rings false. Music lovers will appreciate the passions of Mia, Adam, and her family, who adopt an eclectic mix of favorites." VOYA

Review:

"Mia's recounting of this critical day is laced with insight, good humor, and wonder, allowing the reader to enter the scene as fully as Mia herself seems to have, at least for now, left her broken body....Mia's story will engage readers willing to suspend their disbelief that the future can be seen in the present." Synopsis:

In this suspenseful thriller, teenagers in a small town are drawn deeper into a social networking site that promises to grant their every need . . .regardless of the consequences. . .

Synopsis:

When 16-year old Gabriela's death is foretold by a letter, she must complete her "wrap-up list" before she's forced to say goodbye forever in this smart, funny, compelling, and mysterious young adult novel.

Synopsis:

Rebecca Blue is a rebel with an attitude whose life is changed by a chance encounter with a soon-to-be dead girl. Rebel (as shes known) decides to complete the dead girls bucket list to prove that choice, not chance, controls her fate. In doing so, she unexpectedly opens her mind and heart to a world she once dismissed—a world of friendships, family, and faith. With a shaken sense of self, she must reevaluate her loner philosophy—particularly when she falls for Nate, the golden boy do-gooder who never looks out for himself. Perfect for fans of Jay Ashers blockbuster hit Thirteen Reasons Why, Coriells second novel features her sharp, engaging voice along with realistic drama and unforgettable characters.

Praise for Goodbye, Rebel Blue

"As true as the blue streak in her hair, Rebel will encourage readers to follow their own hearts and dreams."

--Kirkus Reviews

"Readers will root for Rebel as she makes a sincere effort to befriend a detention acquaintance and as she falls for kind-hearted Nate."

--School Library Journal

Synopsis:

In this modern-day suburban town, one percent of all fatalities come about in the most peculiar way. Deaths—eight-foot-tall, silver-gray creatures—send a letter (“Dear So-and-So, your days are numbered”) to whomever is chosen for a departure, telling them to wrap up their lives and do the things they always wanted to do before they have to “depart.” When sixteen-year-old Gabriela receives her notice, she is, of course devastated. Will she kiss her crush Sylvester before its too late? Friendship, first love, and fantasy artfully mesh in this magically realistic world that ultimately celebrates life.

Mia is gravely injured in a car accident that kills her family. As her body lies in a coma in the hospital her spirit is free to wander. Mia must decide whether to live or die. Readers will struggle to make the decision along with her as they relive her life through a series of flashbacks. I found this book compelling and thought provoking and I was kept wondering until the end what her choice would be.
