There's just something about Sarah Addison Allen's particular brand of magical realism that I love, and this is by far the best book she's written...I wish the ending was a bit different, as I don't like who a certain character ends up with, but to me, this is a near-perfect book.

I received a Daily Dose email with the book Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen, and I starred the email and forgot about it. Months later I wandered back to that email, bought the book, and quickly fell deeply in love. I continued by reading Garden Spells, which is a beautiful use of magical realism, sisterhood, and romance. If you liked the film Practical Magic (which I believe was also a book) you will love, love, love this book. I am delighted to have found another author I can count on to write books I will always want to pick up and read. I have become melancholy that I am reading through her works so quickly and will soon have to wait for new releases, which is a sure sign of a good read. All readers can relate to the dreary depression of knowing the pages are coming to an end. I have begun reading all of Allen's novels, and I have to say I have loved them all. Garden Spells is really exceptionally done, and if you are looking for a nice winter book to curl by the fire with, this is it.

I picked up this book on a trip to Seattle. I typically am not attracted to this genre... however, after reading this book I must confess to being a convert. The magic, mystery and pure unadulterated fun found in this book makes it a must read, even for skeptics like me. Since reading this book I've picked up 3 other books by the same author and have not been disappointed. Take a few minutes (or perhaps hours) and let yourself experience something that we'd probably not experience in our everyday lives.
