Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

In the Nebula Award winning Red Mars, Kim Stanley Robinson began his critically acclaimed epic saga of the colonization of Mars, Now the Hugo Award winning Green Mars continues the thrilling and timeless tale of humanity's struggle to survive at its farthest frontier.

Nearly a generation has passed since the first pioneers landed, but the transformation of Mars to an Earthlike planet has just begun The plan is opposed by those determined to preserve the planets hostile, barren beauty. Led by rebels like Peter Clayborne, these young people are the first generation of children born on Mars. They will be joined by original settlers Maya Toitovna, Simon Frasier, and Sax Russell. Against this cosmic backdrop, passions, rivalries, and friendships explode in a story as spectacular as the planet itself.

Review:

"One of the major sagas of the [latest] generation in science fiction." Chicago Sun-Times

Review:

"Yet another masterpiece....I can't imagine anybody else staking out any portion of this immemorial dreamscape with the same elegant detail and thoroughness, it's Kim Stanley Robinson's now and for a long time to come." Science Fiction Age

Review:

"Grounded in current and projected technology, yet relying on human drama to propel the story forward, Robinson's latest novel is solidly written and powerfully explicated." Library Journal

Review:

"This may well be Robinson's best book and possibly the best of the many and various our-future-on-Mars novels to date." Booklist

An amazing second book in the Mars trilogy. If you loved Red Mars you have to continue the story with Green Mars

I enjoyed this just as much, if not more, than I enjoyed Red Mars. It's exciting to see the political and environmental life of Mars morph and change. Sax is now probably my favorite character in the books, next to Nadia; the way he can be distracted by interesting plant life even in the most dire situations is something I identify with and also am amused by. I even started to like Maya a little bit in this one. One of the interesting things about Robinson's style is the way he switches points of view, and the way that this effected my reaction to the characters.
