About the Author

Connie Willis has won six Nebula and Six Hugo Awards (more than any other science fiction writer) and the John W. Campbell Memorial Award for her first novel, Lincoln's Dreams. Her novel Doomsday Book won both the Nebula and Hugo Awards, and her first short-story collection, Fire Watch, was a New York Times Notable Book. Her other works include Bellwether, Impossible Things, Remake, and Uncharted Territory. Ms. Willis lives in Greeley, Colorado, with her family.

I never enjoyed time travel novels until I read Connie Willis. She uses time travel to flaunt her incredible ability to plot her complex stories leaving the reader exhausted and wildly entertained. And since Jerome K. Jerome's Three Men in a Boat is one of my favorite books of all time, Willis' take on the era and the lovingly portrayed intersection of time travelers and Jerome's trio (plus dog) is a masterpiece. I have read this at least five times and intend to repeat as needed. As the classic recommendation of a book goes: I envy anyone reading this for the first time.

A delightfully farsical tale enabled by time travel that turns out to be more about hilarious characters than the unraveling of the universe.

When reading time travel stories, one usually expects technobabble, high drama, and glorification of the past--and those make for good reading but are a bit overdone. Willis' 'To Say Nothing Of The Dog' is a refreshing comedy of errors that brings to life the more inscrutably inane parts of the Victorian Era. She deftly pays homage to the wry humor and picturesque setting of Jerome K. Jerome's travelogue 'Three Men In A Boat' while adding the dimension of interpersonal & interclass relationships (verboten topics for the Victorian Jerome). It is quick, quirky, and more than a little deep in some places...just like the Thames. A great vacation read!
