In kitchens and living rooms, in garages and labs and basements, even in converted chicken coops, women and girls have invented ingenious innovations that have made our lives simpler and better. About the Author

Catherine Thimmesh once discovered that if you hold your watch up to your eyes at a certain angle, the glass face acts as a mirror and you can capture an image (the room you"re in, for example) and then turn the image sideways and upside down (it"s very fun, she says). She lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with her husband and two young children.
