Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Alexander knew it was going to be a terrible day when he woke up with gum in this hair.

And it got worse...

His best friend deserted him. There was no dessert in his lunch bag. And, on top of all that, there were lima beans for dinner and kissing on TV!

This handsome new edition of Judith Viorst's classic picture book is sure to charm readers of all ages.

Synopsis:

Viorst's classic tale of a little boy who must accept the reality that "some days are like that," when everything he does goes awry, is one of her most popular works. "The clever text shines."--"School Library Journal," starred review. ALA Notable Children's Book. Full color.

About the Author

Judith Viorst has been writing for the more than ten years that she has been married, with a lot of helpful encouragement from her husband and three sons. She loves children's books and tries to write books that her own children will like--and in which they will sometimes recognize themselves. Her husband is also a free-lance writer, and he works at home as she does. As one of their children once explained, "My father is a typewriter, and I think my mother is too." One of the earlier books she produced is The Tenth Good Thing About Barney.

Thought this was a great book when I was younger; in elementary school, we had a day where 2 of the classes got together to recite lines in front of parents...we had to act it out and all! I am older now, but I just had a conversation about the book with my boyfriend. He used to love this book when he was younger because he thought the book was written about him since his name is Alex. He says he used to read it every time he experienced a bad day.
