Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Alice — COULD BE ANYONE.

Alice — COULD BE SOMEONE YOU KNOW.

Alice — USES DRUGS.

With over a million copies in print, Go Ask Alice has become a classic of our time. This powerful real-life diary of a teenager's struggle with the seductive — often fatal — world of drugs and addiction tells the truth about drugs in strong and authentic voice. Tough and uncompromising, honest and disturbing — and even more poignant today — Go Ask Alice is page-turning and provocative reading.

Review:

"This novel in diary form powerfully depicts the confusions of adolescence. Its impact cannot be denied." School Library Journal

Review:

"[This] extraordinary work for teenagers is a document of horrifying reality and literary quality." The New York Times

"An important book, this deserves as wide a readership as libraries can give it." Library Journal

Synopsis:

More compelling than ever, this classic real-life diary charts an anonymous teenage girl's struggle with the seductive — and often fatal — world of drugs.

I read this book a very long time ago, and it is still something that I recommend to anyone who hasn't read it. It was very moving, and I feel like it is still incredibly relevant now, though some of the experiences definitely reflect the times. This is a relatively short book, and it's very engaging. I think it's a great recommendation, especially for pre-teens or teens.

I first read this book many years ago, and it was very powerful. I always thought it should be read by all teenagers and parents; now I think it should also be read by younger students. It is no holds barred writing about life.

I read this book in 3 hours. Devoured it. Yes, it is very popular among the high school crowd because it gives a voice to a demographic of kids who are struggling with real issues with drugs. Was it really written by a teenage girl? Probably not. But certainly that does not take away the influence it can have in a reader's life.

While many students read this book, the content is pretty graphic. The scenes of drug use and the narrator's experiences with sex are harsh and real.

Since it is such a quick read, it is worth experiencing.
