I originally picked up this beautiful book, published by Candlewick Press, just to look at it, thinking I might buy one at a later time. But I soon realized that I needed to have a copy in my possession immediately! Laden with attractive illustrations, Dragonology's tongue-in-cheek charm is addictive. Especially amusing are "Finding, Hatching, and Raising a Dragon" and the explanation of what to do for a person who's been hypnotized by a dragon. Pick up a copy for yourself and enjoy this fun read.

About the Author

Dr. Ernest Drake is said to have lived in St. Leonard's Forest, Sussex, England, in the late nineteenth century and to have issued a very limited run — some 100 copies — of Dragonology in 1895. A noted dragonologist and a founding member of the Secret & Ancient Society of Dragonologists in London, Dr. Ernest Drake was determined to bring the subject of dragons under the burgeoning umbrella of the nineteenth-century natural sciences. He had absolutely no doubt that dragons exist, and his notes suggest that he had no little experience of them. Apparently, only one copy of Dragonology ever appeared in public, surfacing in the basement of a secondhand bookstore in London in 1987. The book was accompanied by a letter, dated 1904, addressed to an unnamed apprentice. Dr. Ernest Drake's painstaking work has been faithfully reproduced in this unique volume.

Dragonology is an amazing book filled with interesting facts on magnificent dragons. I used to think that dragons did not exist but now I am a true beliver and I have a great love for dragons and other creatures.

This book is great fun to read. I was astonished at the detailed and colorful hand drawn images. At first, I couldn't decide between all of the 'Ology books. But when I examined the artwork of Dragonology, I was blown away. Even if the book is listed as fiction, there are facts about the Chinese Lung and other native dragons.

One closing comment: there is NOTHING about Trogdor.
