Betty Crocker's classic cookbook for children is back — in an authentic reproduction of the original 1957 edition

A whole generation of Baby Boomers grew up with Betty Crocker's Cookbook for Boys and Girls, and they have helped to make it the one of the most requested titles in the Betty Crocker archives. Now back by popular demand, this timeless favorite stands ready to capture the hearts of a new generation of budding cooks. Packed with recipes that are just as popular with kids today as they were 45 years ago, it shows how to make everything from Ice Cream Cone Cakes and Pigs in Blankets to Cheese Dreams and Sloppy Joes. The small format, easy recipes, charming color illustrations and photographs, and even the cover, are all the same as they were in the 1957 edition — and just as delightful as ever. The only innovation is the concealed wire binding that lies flat for easy cooking while being sturdy enough to withstand energetic handling by kids in the kitchen. It's the ideal book to give or to keep, for retro appeal, and for getting today's kids started in the kitchen.

I spent my whole allowance on this recipe book when I was about 11 yrs old. I couldn't find any copies when my children were little, but I am so excited to find it at Powell's. I'm buying them for my grandchildren now. I still make fudge from that recipe book and I can remember using the Sloppy Jo recipe for a young peoples' party at my church (when I was in high school in Az in 1966}. One of the other mothers asked me for the recipe as she said her sons raved about it at home.
Not bad for a 15 yr old cook! I used so many recipes in there-they were all so easy & tasted like you had spent a lot of time & effort on them. My original cookbook died years ago, but I am treating myself to a new one. My mother scoured yard sales, library sales, etc. for years to find me another one. She was able to find enough copies over the years to get one for each of her 4 grandchilren. Now it's my turn. I think I paid $1.00 for my copy. I can remember Mom asking if I didn't want to spend it something else. I told her no and it was probably the most used cookbook for years. I have a twin sister who spent her money on something else, and none of us remember what is was, but we still talk about the cookbook. Thanks for letting me me have an opportunity to get more copies. We will all enjoy them.

[kw][kw][a]I had friends over unexpectedly, one being a wonderful 8 year old girl named Erin. She wanted to help in the kitchen with preparing dinner. I pulled out my stained & faded childhood copy of Betty Crocker?s Cook Book for Boys and Girls and to my surprise she fell in love with it! She even copied the Swedish Meat Ball recipe to take home with her!!

She was delighted to think that there was a cookbook even for her and not just for grown?ups! This exact reproduction of this classic cook book is exceptional. Never would have thought that she would find it so interesting after being published 49 years ago - guess some things never change.

She did ask while reading the book, if I had an oven when I was growing up! (Yes Erin I had an oven! I?m not THAT old -- just a baby boomer!). So the only reservation that I have about the book is NOT the book itself, but the questions young ones may ask while cooking with you! (grin).

This is a great way to introduce cooking to young people. Strongly recommend every child have a copy.
