The premier stitch dictionary, I have an old hardcover that has been toted about everywhere. This series is great but the first volume is still the best. A must- have for any knitter, because it isn't a compilation of patterns to follow but the tools to create your own. If you want to design a throw, an aran sweater or any project, this book will give you the building blocks of texture - and some color as well - with succinct explanations and dated but informative balck and white photos.

I own this edition and would highly recommend it to beginning and advanced knitters alike. A pure treasure in any knitter's library, you'll find yourself referring to it time and time again.

This is the first volume and covers knit-purl combinations, ribbings, as well as color change, slip-stitch, textured, yarn-over, basic lace and cable patterns. Every pattern is written out - there are no charts. The sample pictures are the original black & white photos, and could be higher quality, but I like avoiding the color bias.

An indispensable resource and well worth the price.
