Where would your dream take you if you had a whole year to just travel?

Have you always dreamed of taking that long trip — but don't know how to "get it all together" to actually get out the door?

What's really keeping you from living your dream?

This detailed "how-to" guide will get you moving from the dreaming to the doing to live your idea of the perfect trip.

Included is step-by-step, real life information on planning the trip you've always wanted to take — along with generous doses of humor and advice. Topics covered include:

  • How to pay for a year away from home
  • What to do with your house and cars while you're gone
  • How to pack for a year in 3 small drawers and 24" of closet space — for two!
  • How to unravel all your current commitments — to family, work, and organizations — and meet everyone's needs
  • How to handle the emergencies that crop up along the way. Broken ankle? —just keep moving; car crash? —you'll work it out
  • And the most asked question: How to stand your traveling companion on a 24/7 basis for 365 days!
Once you've decided to "leave it all behind" and be a kid again, Live Your Road Trip Dream takes you along on an action-packed, whirlwind tour of the author's trip — just so you'll know what it is really like to be on the road for an extended period of time.

The Whites decided that the time had come for them to live their road trip dream. Once they were off on their adventure, people peppered them with questions, not so much about what they were doing (everyone has their own dream!), but about how they actually made it happen. It was with the encouragement of want-to-be traveler's everywhere that Live Your Road Trip Dream was created.

Review:

"[The White?s] Great American Adventure wasn?t perfect. The van needed repairs, Carol broke her ankle, and the digital camera bit the dust. About the Author

Phil and Carol are experts on this topic. They have lived and experienced every word of Live Your Road Trip Dream.

The White?s are recently retired from the everyday work world, and have begun travel writing as their new vocation. This trip was a year in the talking, learning, researching and planning stages, and a year in the execution of the actual adventure.

During Phil?s 26-year career, he was a small business owner of a retail Men?s Clothing Store. He has extensive Sales and Marketing experience from that endeavor, as well as a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to run a successful business. His skills in listening to people and engaging them in informative conversation were invaluable on the trip.

Carol comes from the other end of the Sales and Marketing spectrum, having retired from Lucent Technologies in 1999. Her 35 years in the computing and telecommunications fields with Lucent and AT&T have garnered her a wealth of experience.

Both Phil and Carol are graduates of Portland State University, Portland, Oregon. Phil has a broad-based degree in General Studies, and Carol graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double major in Business Administration/Marketing and Psychology.

When they are not traveling, Phil and Carol enjoy golf, community activities, and most of all, their 8 grandchildren.

I found your book about a year ago...
I've always wanted to take a trip around the USA, one of my retirement
dreams... However at 47, I had a baby (yes, 47) and figured, that was it,
tied to home for another 20 years... Will I be too old to travel? Will they
still give us a driving license? Then I thought... maybe when she is in 2nd
or 3rd grade(want to make sure SOMEBODY taught her how to read!) before she
gets into all her friends, sports etc... But I could never get Jeff and
Alisa to say yes at the same time, and I knew that unless they were "both in"
there would be no trip... I was smart enough not to "make" anyone go. There
would (will) be some rough times and damn it, it's not going to be ALL my
Thanks, Terry
fault :)
The other problem was the money thing, how could this possibly work on a
fixed income and a husband not working for a year? That's when I found your
book... It re-opened up the desire and the reality that this could actually
work!
Your book is the only one that gives the hard, cold information that one
needs... Not just the highlights of where to go, what to see, we can all
figure that out. This book talks about insurance, getting a sabbatical from
clubs, getting someone to take your mail, renting your house with sample
ads... This info gave me the guts to bring it up to the family one more
time... And you know what, they both said YES!
I moved into gear, Craig's List got us the "perfect renter", someone looking
for a house for the EXACT time that we wanted to be gone. After that, things
just seemed to fall into place. I've got the house pared down to the bare
minimum (almost like moving, what a GREAT feeling, so much lighter), all the
accounts on-line, oh yes, bought a great motor home (BIGFOOT 2004, 29 feet),
took some "shake down trips", got the older "kids" to get on board and be
supportive. AMAZING!!
We are about a month out from leaving... We live in Portland also, couldn't
think of a good reason to leave Portland in the summer, so we are leaving
end of August and returning mid-June 2011.
I've been thinking of writing you both a not, so here it is. Wish us luck,
we will need it. I might need to go to Powell's, I saw on your website you
have written a second edition including info on "road-schooling", we are set
for that, but I could use a few tips!
Thanks, Terry Folen
