About the Author

Robin Robertson is a veteran restaurant chef, cooking teacher, and an acclaimed writer. She pens a regular column for VegNews Magazine and has written for Vegetarian Times, Health Naturally, Restaurant Business, National Culinary Review, American Culinary Federation Magazine, and Better Nutrition. She has written numerous cookbooks including the best-selling title The Sacred Kitchen. She wrote a weekly column entitled “The Veg Edge” for The Virginian-Pilot newspaper of Norfolk, Virginia, which also appeared in the Albany, New York, Times Union newspaper under the title “The Veg Connection.”

Robertson grew up eating and cooking the delicious foods prepared by her Italian-American mother. She became an expert at classical French cooking while working at a variety of fine restaurants in Pennsylvania and South Carolina. She left the restaurant business in 1988, adopted a vegan lifestyle, and began spreading the word about flavorful vegetarian and vegan cuisine in classes, workshops, newspapers, magazines, and cookbooks.

Robertson currently writes, promotes her books, and teaches workshops and classes on her innovative vegan and vegetarian cuisine in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she lives with her husband and two cats.

Excellent, excellent cookbook. Every meal I've made thus far - braised seitan with red wine sauce mushrooms, veggie pot pie, Hoppin' John - has been delicious and very accommodating to my 10 hour work schedule and 6 qt cooker (even when they call for less time and a different sized cooker). Many recipes call for seitan, which at first sent me to Whole Foods for $4 boxes of wheat meat... but the good news is that there's even an awesome seitan recipe included in the book! I tried it yesterday and made four batches, which is so convenient! Looking forward to trying all the recipes I can manage... and making use of the handy final chapter, 'the electric punchbowl.' Grogg!

Okay, so, lesson learned. I should NEVER read a cookbook before bed. I want to eat!!! I think this is a great cookbook for everyone, vegetarian or not. Stuffed green peppers, bread pudding, chili, fancy oatmeal and a Spiced Hot Mocha I can't wait to try. (A pint of chocolate ice cream, coffee and brandy???) Time to go to the grocery store!

This was excellent. Every recipe I have tried has turned out great. The recipes are also very easy to alter to create a new taste. I'm very please with this one and it has become one of the cookbooks I use all the time. My crockpot gets a LOT more use thanks to this book. The recipes suit the Vegetarians and also the meat eaters. They are simply excellent vegetable recipes.
