Affordable Remodel: How to Get Custom Results on Any Budget Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Call him cheap, but Fernando Pages Ruiz enjoys luxury remodeling that doesn't pull at the purse strings. Now he shares his hard-won secrets, revealing the full range of money-saving options available to homeowners today. Many of these techniques and materials the author developed remodeling his own properties over the past 30 years. Others he got by interviewing top remodeling contractors around the country. With the power of insider knowledge, readers too can achieve the home of their dreams without busting their budget. Ruiz simplifies the frustrating complexities of remodeling and points out the sometimes obvious, often hidden, but always effective ways to cut costs.

Book News Annotation:

This well-illustrated guide considers the current housing market as well as the cravings of those who long to move up without the debt. Builder and remodeler Ruiz, who specializes in champagne results on beer budgets, finds space you forgot you had in your house, shows how less can be more through careful research on products, explains how strategic planning (and drawing) works, and details why focusing on project safety can more than pay for itself. He gives ideas on systems (including weatherproofing) advocates sprucing up doors and windows and shows how a few dollars for interior surfaces can go a long way. He does not flinch from exterior improvements and even takes on kitchens and baths, being completely realistic about the skills levels of the average citizen. He also shows why over-improving and excessive trendiness are wastes of money and effort. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
