This is a captivating story of one of North America's premere explorers. Nisbet's writing is easy to follow and paints pictures so that you can easily imagine what life was like for the fur trapper in the Northwest before settlers crossed the Mississippi. Nisbet also includes his own travels in the same areas and gives us a picture of what the area is like now. I recommend this book highly as a companion to any study of early American explorers, including Lewis and Clark, who were contemporaries of Thompson and used some of his notes and maps to aid their journies in what is now North Dakota and Montana.
