Publisher Comments:

This is the only self-help book designed to help the layperson to treat themselves for painful trigger points with massage. Trigger point therapy is one of the most intriguing and fastest-growing bodywork styles in the world. Medical doctors, chiropractors, and alternative health practitioners are all beginning to use this technique to relieve the pain of individuals suffering from undiagnosable soft tissue pain-a condition that studies have shown to be the cause of nearly 25 percent of all doctor visits. The technique involves applying a gentle, sweeping stroke to trigger points, places in muscle or connective tissue where a lack of oxygen causes swelling. These points are easily located by general readers and create pain throughout the body in predictable patterns characteristic to each muscle, producing discomfort ranging from mild to severe. The stimulation of the point causes an increase in the oxygen level in the area and often produces instant relief.

The first edition of The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook has made a huge impact in the use of this dynamic technique. This is the first major revision of the overnight classic, a complete update that includes new information specifically for massage professionals as well as a detailed discussion of progressive muscle relaxation techniques that can reinforce the therapeutic power of trigger point work.

As a massage therapist and a sufferer of Chronic Fibromyalgia pain this book has done for me what thousands of dollars and dozens of doctors could not seem to do. The day I met Claire and April was the day I began to learn to use maintenance to control my pain. Most people don't know that a trigger point can cause a sore throat or irregular menses. I have treated people who have had the same issues for over a decade many told they have pinched nerves and other misdiagnosis. I teach my clients to treat themselves and this book has changed their lives as well as mine. It is always my first line of treatment in my practice. John Kennedy said only Janet Travell could stop his pain, she was the foremost expert on trigger point and wrote the physician's guide to trigger point. She was also the only woman Whitehouse Phys. Sadley most doctors don't have a clue how to use it or what it even entails.

Good self-help tool

I consider this book to be a useful self-help tool for treating trigger points, or irritable spots in the muscle. It has many, many pictures which help guide the reader to common places in the muscles where these things are at. From there, you can use a ball, massage them with your fingers, or even use this tool called a Thera-Cane to get to those hard to reach places.

All in all a handy book for treating trigger points, another good lesson here is that sometimes muscle trigger points can mimick more serious ailments, when the problem is really just in the muscle. Also recommend "The 5-Minute Plantar Fasciitis Solution" if you suffer from plantar fasciitis pain.
