Publisher Comments:

Mike Mignola has deservedly become one of the biggest names in comics for his creation of Hellboy. But when Mignola needs a short break from the Hellboy universe, he turns to diversions such as The Amazing Screw-On Head, winner of the Eisner Award for Best Humor Publication! When Emperor Zombie threatens the safety of all life on earth, President Lincoln enlists the aid of a mechanical head. With the help of associates Mr. Groin (a faithful manservant) and Mr. Dog (a dog), Screw-On Head must brave ancient tombs, a Victorian flying apparatus, and demons from a dimension inside a turnip. This new collection of oddball Mignola creations also includes "The Magician and the Snake," from Dark Horse Maverick: Happy Endings, and nearly fifty pages of brand-new material, all as weird and hilarious as the beloved Screw-On Head.

I'm a Mike Mignola fan and collector. I had finally gotten my Hellboy and B.P.R.D. collections up to where I wanted them, and bought this to begin rounding out the collection. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I figured that at the very least it would have very nice art work to look out. Those were my expectations when I ordered it. While reading it, my expectations were blown away!

This is a book of one issue length story (eponymous) and several shorts completely unrelated to the Hellboy/B.P.R.D. universe. All of them were beautifully rendered with Mignola's trademark style, and the stories themselves were excellent. Not comical in the classic sense, but very humorous and highly creative. The Magician and the Snake had to be my favorite. All of them were a blend of sometimes dark, sometimes absurd humor and beautiful art.

I highly recommend this to any fan of Mike Mignola, or independent comic books in general.
