Publisher Comments:

Having witnessed the events on Istvaan III, Deathguard Captain Garro seizes a ship and heads to Terra to warn the Emperor of Horus's treachery. But the fleeing Eisenstein is damaged by enemy fire, and becomes stranded in the warp. Can Garro and his men survive the depradations of Chaos and get his warning to Terra in time?

The Fat Englishman, April 28, 2014 (view all comments by The Fat Englishman)
The first appearance of arguably one of the greatest non-Primarch Space Marine characters that ever lived; and yes, I am including the likes of Marneus Calgar and other more contemporary figures as Lucius of the Emperor's children or Erebus of the Word Bearers.

I'm speaking of course about Nathaniel Garro. The first steps into greatness taken by this warrior, and the life-long quest he is eventually set to by Malcador the Sigillite have their beginnings in this book about Garro's desperate exodus from Isstvan, and the monumental sacrifice made by those who trust him, along with the epic highs of triumph and the bludgeoning lows of defeat, guilt and even abandonment.

READ THIS BOOK. Then even if you don't look into any of the other Horus Heresy novels, jump headlong into the other Garro books James has penned. This is by far my favorite story arc and character in the entire Horus series, perhaps even greater than my anticipation of the battle of Terra itself.
