Publisher Comments:

How does a 9 year-old child cope with reentry into his own culture? How does he deal with the alienation he faces at school? How does he compete when he cannot compete? Justin Chase Clark does not adjust well to Paltrow Elementary School. He and his family have lived abroad, and growing up in a late 1970s white, middle-class neighborhood proves a challenge for the astute, well-travelled boy. He delves into a number of interests and fantasies, to ease his pain. The Neighborhood Watch Club is a nostalgic story about reminiscing, alienation, loneliness and love. Told from Chase's point of view years later, he recalls his childhood crushes, and in particular, one girl who completely alters his whole existence. He tells the story of his difficult return to the United States marching to the beat of his own drum. Quickly, he finds solace in one good friend who tells him stories of a UFO rumored to have landed in the neighborhood. However, as Chase and Jim Svoboda and two other boys investigate the UFO gossip, another phenomenon enters Chase's life that changes him forever.
