Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

This inspiring--and often funny--collection about ordinary people daring to live their dreams provides encouragement to readers, inviting them to take a leap of faith and truly live. Included are self-tests, quizzes, growth exercises, and inspiring quotes.

Synopsis:

For this book, author Diane Conway approached a police officer, a waitress, a politician, a lawyer, a cab driver, and many others, and asked them each the same question: "What would you do if you had no fear?" The results, chronicled in this book, were both surprising and enlightening. Her respondents told her their secrets, their long-hidden dreams, and their fears. Their dreams included quitting mind-numbing jobs, applying to medical school, buying tickets to South America, finding true love, quitting drinking, or having an affair. The distance between dreaming and doing, according to Conway, is surprisingly short. In What Would You Do If You Had No Fear? her fresh voice and "Studs Terkel in drag persona" challenge readers to stop, open their hearts, and truly live. Included are self-tests, quizzes, growth exercises, and inspiring quotes for realizing one's fear-free potential.

Synopsis:

An inspiring (and often funny) collection about ordinary people daring to live their dreams--encouraging us all to take a leap of faith and inhabit the life we were meant to live.

I'd be the first to comment on a book I hadn't even actually read yet, is what!

I keep googling it. I've been wanting to buy it for about 2 years now but keep running out of book money (I'm a little bad) But look: it's got about the world's best title. And it has a forward by Anne Lamott, how cool and irresistable is that? Because that's enough reason to buy the book right there. And another reason is because I wish I had written it. Do you think I could use the same title, and get Anne Lamott to write another forward?

I will even rate this book. I give it a "4," not because it's not fully worth a "5" but because maybe giving it a 5 at this point would be getting just a little ahead of myself. I would give it a 4.5, if Powell Books even gave me that option, but it doesn't. But please, buy this book from Powells.com yourself and then YOU can give it a five, and that will pull the average up to where it belongs. (also, please note that I DID follow Powells.com's rules about not giving away any surprises..) And if I do win a prize for being the first to comment, could it be a copy of this actual book, please?

-- From almostgotit ( author, "How to (almost) get the job," which includes no forwards by Anne Lamott)
