This is one of the most beautiful topology books ever
written. It is a guided, interactive introduction to
knots, links and 3-manifolds, with material on 4- and
higher-dimensional manifolds also investigated.

The prerequisite is a first course in point-set topology,
fundamental group and covering spaces, as taught in
Munkres' book, "Topology". It brings topology to life
as few books do. It should be part of the education of
every geometric topologist.
