Lee's Priceless Recipes Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

At the turn of the 20th century, it was popular to publish books that professed to include virtually all knowledge to date. Most popular of the genre were the books of "secret" recipes, revealing industrial secrets to the layman.

First published in 1895, Lee's Priceless Recipes covers an extraordinary range in its 3000 secrets. There are several hundred formulas for stains, paints, waxes, and false finishes of all types, as well as advice on tanning hides, preserving eggs, drying fruit and purifying rancid butter.

Takes a little bit to get used to the wording on some of the recipes but otherwise an excellent book, very handy, and small enough to tag along where ever you might need it.

I have an original copy of this book dated eighteen hundred and nitety-five, I put the title in 'google' and your site was the first one. you have a comment box and I wondered what a book like this might be worth? Any thoughts? It's cloth cover is peeling at the lower corners, the paper is brown and it is fairly fragile....
PS~I love reading the recipes in it! Have never tried any, but I did find out that starch is just plain old flour and water! Now it might have other ingredients, but I wonder....
