Book News Annotation:

Yank (technical director) writes for developers and first-time PHP programmers with a background in HTML who want to build dynamic Web sites. He starts with the basics on MySQL and PHP, and then proceeds to describing relational database design and the notion of a content management system. He then works through the process of formatting and submitting data and administering MySQL, followed by more advanced work such as dealing with advanced SQL queries, binary data, and structured PHP programming. Appendices include descriptions of MySQL syntax, functions, and data, and PHP functions for working with MySQL. Yank includes many examples of code and screen shots, as well as a nicely comprehensive index. In this third edition, Yank updates information on installation and PHP programming. Distributed in the US by O'Reilly.

Synopsis:

This is a practical hands-on guide to learning all the tools, principles and techniques needed to build a fully functional database driven Website using PHP & MySQL. This book covers everything from installing PHP & MySQL under Windows, Linux, and Mac through to building a live Web-based content management system. While this is essentially a beginners book, it also covers more advanced topics such as the storage of binary data in MySQL, and cookies and sessions in PHP. ?The book is execellent for people just starting a web design project. I love the way it breaks down even the most complicated steps. Its a hands on book and that anyone can use.? - Matt Hebert ?This book is the first tutorial that actually GOT me there. When I got my first test page working and pulled my first record up, I came to the realization that the instructions in the book worked. The First time. Well-written, well-formatted and CLEAR. The Mac section had everything I needed.? - M. Douglas Wray

This book is the best book I have seen to bridge the gap between beginner PHP titles, and more advanced titles. It has excellent, easy to follow examples.
