Publisher Comments:

This stunning, comprehensive guide to France's celebrated wine begins with the history
of the first ch?teaux and culminates in a lively ch?teau-by-ch?teau catalog of recent
vintages.
With a history spanning centuries, the Bordeaux region ranks as perhaps the premier
wine-making area in the world. But as Michel Dovaz makes clear in his tour of les ch?teaux
Bordeaux, the true story of this legendary wine begins eons ago, when the earth itself
took shape and blessed one part of France with a magical soil.
This guide presents the fascinating history of the many ch?teaux that have been operating
continuously since the 17th century. The author also explains the many steps that go into
the creation of Bordeaux wines. Finally, he presents an essential catalog featuring the
wines of 125 ch?teaux, arranged following the 1855 classification, complete with tasting
notes for recent vintages and photographs of each bottle.
It is said that ten bottles of Bordeaux are opened every second around the globe. Bordeaux
futures are traded as luxury commodities for prices that would startle all but the most
experienced investors. This wine clearly has devoted followers the world over, and Bordeaux
will satisfy them all.
Michel Dovaz is a French wine expert who has contributed to many wine-related publications,
most notably Vin de France, for 20 years. He is the author of more than a dozen books on
wine. Photographer Michel Guillard is a Bordeaux specialist. Head of the highly regarded
publication L'amateur de Bordeaux, in 1988 he co-produced an exhibition on the ch?teaux
Bordeaux that appeared at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
86 pages in full color, plus 125 black-and-white photographs of bottles
