Publisher Comments:

Euell Gibbons was one of the few people in this country to devote a considerable part of his life to the adventure of "living off the land." He sought out wild plants all over North America and made them into delicious dishes. His book includes recipes for vegetable and casserole dishes, breads, cakes, muffins and twenty different pies. He also shows how to make numerous jellies, jams, teas, and wines, and how to sweeten them with wild honey or homemade maple syrup.

Synopsis:

Euell Gibbons is one of the few people in this country to have devoted a considerable part of his life to the adventure of "living off the land". The wild foods he recommends in this book are widely available everywhere. There are recipes for delicious vegetable and casserole dishes, breads, cakes, muffins and twenty different pies. He shows how to make numerous jellies, jams, teas and wines, and tells how to sweeten them with wild honey or homemade maple syrup. Gibbons reveals his actual methods of hunting, fishing, recognizing, gathering and using the cornucopia of foods abounding in the wild.

Great piece of useful botany and history. Really enjoyed it in my youth.
So glad it's available. Hands down better than some of the silly, beautifully illustrated books I've seen in Barnes and Noble, etc. to teach people about survival. They might be good for a few handfuls or dishes IF it's the right season and ecosystem. Plan to send Asparagus text to loved ones with such concerns. I just think it's a wonderful source of practical (edible) plant lore. Gibbons also turned a phrase elegantly. New cover looks nice- look forward to remembrance.
