Synopses & Reviews

Synopsis:

Can I grow an apple tree on the deck of my condo? Is it really safe to buy annuals in March? Tell me how to grow carnivorous plants! How can we invite bumblebees into our garden, and how can we get the yellow jackets to leave? These are just a few of the 400 oft-asked and puzzling gardening questions in this book. Ciscoe Morris signature exclamation “Ooh-la-la!” (delivered with a thick Wisconsin accent) may be completely disarming, but his gardening chops are second-to-none. Master gardener, certified arborist, teacher at the University of Washingtons Center for Urban Horticulture, Ciscoe — a familiar and well-loved personality in gardening media throughout the Pacific Northwest — addresses the full range of gardening issues from ornamental gardening to vegetables, fruit trees, shrubs, lawns, containers, weeds, and more — all in his inimitable humorous and informed style.

About the Author

Ciscoe Morris dispenses gardening wisdom on television, radio, in print, and in person in the Seattle area and across the country.

Shelley the plant fiend, January 30, 2013 (view all comments by Shelley the plant fiend)
Ask Ciscoe offers dozens of gardening questions answered by expert gardener and arborist, Ciscoe Morris. He shares gardening wisdom with humor, i.e. encouraging you not to "prune the tweetle out of your new tree". He warns that if you make a bromeliad Christmas tree that you shouldn't "be surprised if a howler monkey comes down the chimney instead of Santa". Interesting links like Rod Crawford's Spider Myths and Little and Lewis water features websites are sprinkled throughout. He started gardening at age ten and his enthusiasm for gardening is infectious. This book would make a great gift for a gardener friend or yourself.
