This little cookbook bursts with sensuality and is cozy with the comfort of family and friends. I've long been a fan of McClure's paper-cut art, and now her recipes make my heart sing. Advice worth taking from Pacific Northwesterner Nikki McClure: "Eat with friends. Eat outside."

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

How to Cook the Perfect Day is filled with beautiful images and simple recipes with head notes that inspire dreams of the perfect day, including a picnic rendezvous, afternoon tea, and a midnight snack. The book opens with the suggestion of a morning forage for whatever readers can find (and she doesn't mean foraging in the kitchen cupboard!). A recipe for peaches and waffles follows, a dish the author's husband makes for his family every day. The book includes recipes for a lovely gingerbread cake, a curry potluck, and a celestial apple pie, all topped off with original Nikki McClure artwork gracing every page.

Synopsis:

How to Cook the Perfect Day is filled with beautiful images and simple recipes with headnotes that dreamily document a perfect day--including a picnic rendezvous, an afternoon tea, and a midnight snack. The book opens with the suggestion of a morning forage in the great outdoors instead of in the kitchen pantry for whatever readers can find to nibble on. A recipe for peaches and waffles follows; it's a breakfast treat McClure's husband makes for the family often. Recipes for a lovely gingerbread cake, a curry potluck, and a celestial apple pie are all accompanied by Nikki McClure's elegant artwork.

About the Author

Nikki McClure is a self-taught artist who has been making paper-cuts since 1996. As one of the more prominent visual artists involved with Olympia-based record labels K and Kill Rock Stars, as well as the Riot Grrrl movement in the early nineties, her work still embodies the fiercely independent fire that fueled the passion and creativity of that time period. She lives in Olympia, Washington.

This combines two things that my wife loves, cooking and Nikki McClure's art. As well it combines my love of my wife's cooking and the artwork. I know she would love this as a gift. If I am not the lucky winner, I intend to purchase this book from Powell's anyway. Please do not make that a factor in my chases to win this edition. :)

Our teen-ager fell in love with Nikki McClure when some of her woodcut art appeared in an Indiespensable package. We live in the Bay area and we have a game of Nikki McClure spotting - her calendar hangs at Nabolom Bakery in Berkeley. Love their vegan chocolate mousse pie. We stocked up on Nikki McClure cards and a gift book when we visited Powells and Portland last summer.
