B-More Careful: Meow Meow Productions Presents

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Shannon Holmes' book, B-More Careful, has been quoted as one of the best street stories ever read. Voted by Essence a superb Best Seller, B-More Careful, is the hottest urban novel to date and is smashing all other books on the shelves as it climbs to the top of all black owned book store charts.

B-More Careful, the story of Netta, the leader of an all girl clique called the "Pussy Pound", and her friend Mimi, take you on a journey throughout the streets of Baltimore untold, like never before. Author, Shannon Holmes, writes a magnificent, fast-paced, action packed drama about inner-city street like, in a reflection of a lifestule he himself is familiar.

Written while serving time in prison for a minor drug charge, Shannon Holmes began writing in 1999. After the completion of B-More Careful, Shannon Holmes sent his book to Meow Meow Productions owned by author, Teri Woods, who immediately fell in love with the story line. "I started reading B-More Careful over the Christmas Holiday of 2000 and I couldn't put it down. I offered him a publishing deal within one week of receiving his book. That's how hot he was." B-More Careful was subsequently released on January 15th, 2002.

No longer incarcerated, Shannon Holmes, is busy completing his second manuscript, Bad Girlz and is continuing to push his first title, B-More Careful. Amazingly, B-More Careful has sold over 100,000 copies and is still selling strong. Shannon Holmes was recently credited in the Source Magazine and is sure to land a film deal within the upcoming months.

B-More Careful is a force to be reckoned with in urban street entertainment. Already labeled a classic, author Shannon Holmes has everyone in the edge of their seats waiting for his next release and with everythin he offered us in B-More Careful, it's sure to be another best seller.

Review:

"It had taken three trips to area bookstores to find it, but at last, in the Gallery mall at the Inner Harbor, I spied a copy of B-More Careful, a novel by Shannon Holmes that, I'd been told repeatedly, was a ghetto-fabulous must-read. Word on the street is that the book is all the rage among Baltimore's young and restless set" Afefe Tyehimba, Baltimore City Paper

I happen to pick up a copy of this book waiting on my sister to get her nails done about 4 years ago and asbolutely could not put it down. Admittedly I am a voracious reader and had never up until this moment
spent any time reading books of this genre; However, this one book simply put was one I could not put down; it was totally mesmerizing in content and delivery from start to finish- I read it within 4 hours non-stop and then excitedly passed it one to my neighbors, who passed it on to some friends, colleagues and eventually my book club members. We are all professional women and admittedly we came away stunned and filled with questions; and ideas as to who would be best to play the star roles in this book should it ever be made into a movie. As a native Washingtonian I personally gained a new found respect for Baltimore, our sister city, because I had absolutely no idea that town was popping like that.

Mr. Holmes is to be commended for such a gripping portrayal of urban life and more than anything his sensitivity in giving a life story to each of his characters background histories for me was a masterful piece of literary genius. It is easier to blame these young people for the choices they are making than to stop to realize that their is indeed a story ungirding and propelling them into situations- Mr. Holmes peeled back the onion skins that layered his characters lives- quite eloguently and as a trained clinician I for one could truly appreciate the time and talent it took to draw this characters out giving them some dimensions for the reader to work with. I believe he truly grasp the concept that "no one comes to the planet as a monster- living life can turn you into one". In closing I eagerly look forward to reading part 2 of Netta's story;
For all us book club sisters this book and others like it demonstrate that there is a real world of young sisters- who clearly need our help to empowering them on making better decisions

thank you Mr.Holmes for the enlightment

First I'd like to give props to Mr. Powell's for this entertaining but yet so true book. Once I opened the book I just could'nt put it down, it's really a page turner. The story was very detailed and captivating. It brought you inside and it made you feel like you were right there with each character living out their lives with them and watching everything first-hand. I'm from Louisiana and it's just funny how the same things go on but just in different places. I appreciate how Mr. Powell's gave it to us raw and uncut, plain and simple he gave it to us real. I look forward to reading more of your novels and I anticipate a movie or short film for this novel, it truly deserves one, I just know it will be even more gansta than the book, not to sound so ghetto but that's just what it is "gansta" and I loved every bit of it. I even got my boyfriend interested enough to read it and he's not a big reader, he finds everything boring or unrealistic. Congratulations on your success.
