Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Rob Grafton and Louise Bright are in love and engaged to be married. When they unexpectedly find themselves unemployed, marriage plans are derailed and they are forced to rethink the direction of their lives. While Louise turns to school, Rob maintains a staunch desire to regain his old job, but when the company is itself shut down and hope is lost, Rob's depression not only keeps him from finding another job, but ends up repelling Louise, as well. Set in contemporary England, Breakfast After Noon is a unique comic-book treat, choosing to focus on the twists and turns of real life rather than convoluted plots or the smoke-and-mirrors of the fantastic.

Review:

"Breakfast After Noon has a memorably sensitive, low-key meaningfulness..." Andrew D. Arnold, Time.comix

Review:

"Humane, sweet...Watson gives Breakfast After Noon a homey twist with thick, impressionistic lines that recall magazine illustrations of the '20s." Douglas Wolk, CMJ New Music Monthly

Review:

"Andi Watson is incredibly talented. I recently re-read Breakfast After Noon, and I was amazed at what a clever, compelling, multi-layered work it was. He tells great stories." Christopher Butcher, PopImage.com

Review:

"[L]ife on paper....Breakfast After Noon is a very cool thing, a rare gem...the kind of lifelike, touching story that comics are often sorely lacking." Steve Pheley, SavantMag.com

Review:

"Mr. Watson's unique style, characterized by grey-tone shading and thick line definition, continues to develop in leaps and bounds." Johanna Draper-Carlson, ComicsWorthReading.com

Review:

"This is one of those rare comic books that any reader can be proud to pass along to a non-comics-reading friend to show that the art form is far more versatile than one might expect." Don MacPherson, Critiques on Infinite Earths

Review:

"Whether it's the UK or the USA, when it comes to love and money, it's the same song! Join in with the struggle, beautifully told by Andi Watson!" John K. Snyder III, artist of Dr. Mid-Nite and Grendel

About the Author

Andi Watson is the creator of Skeleton Key, Geisha, and Breakfast After Noon. He also scripted the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics for two years, has optioned Skeleton Key for a cartoon series, designed animated advent calendars for AOL.co.uk, and had one of his cover images appear fleetingly in the background of teen flick Coyote Ugly. He is currently hard at work on a brand-new miniseries for Slave Labor Graphics, Slow News Day, and is providing covers for the Oni Press series Hopeless Savages. Despite his brushes with fame, he remains remarkably down to earth.
